NSW records no new coronavirus cases for second day in a row as testing rates decline

NSW has again recorded no new cases of COVID-19 - however health authorities are urging more testing as schools break up on Friday and holidays begin.

For the second day in a row NSW has recorded not a single case of COVID-19, either locally acquired or in hotel quarantine.

There were just 6353 tests done in the 24-hour reporting period until 8pm on Sunday - half the number of 12,333 in the previous 24 hours.

Sunday was the first time since 10 June, that NSW didn't record a single infection over a 24-hour span.
In a statement on Monday, NSW Health asked people to remain vigilant and come forward for testing immediately if they had symptoms like a runny nose, scratchy throat, cough or fever.

"This is particularly important with the start of school holidays and increased movement of people around the state," the statement said.

Asked if the state would further relax rules Premier Gladys Berejiklian said on Sunday NSW was continually reviewing restrictions in line with expert health advice.

"While the health and safety of the people of NSW remains our priority, we are also focused on firing up the economy and getting people back in jobs," she said.

"We don't want any restrictions in place longer than they need to be."
NSW Health is treating 63 COVID-19 cases, including three in intensive care, none of whom are being ventilated. Eighty-seven per cent of cases being treated by NSW Health are in non-acute, out-of-hospital care.

The NSW coronavirus death toll stands at 55.
