Palestinian President Abbas in hospital

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has undergone minor ear surgery in a Ramallah hospital and is expected to be released in a few hours.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is undergoing minor ear surgery in a West Bank hospital and is expected to be discharged within a few hours, the official Palestinian news agency Wafa says.

Abbas, 82, was hospitalised in the United States during a trip to address the UN Security Council in February.

The surgery comes after 58 Palestinians were killed by Israeli military during Gaza protests on Monday against the opening of the new US Embassy in contested Jerusalem.
