Most Australians are dissatisfied with Donald Trump’s performance as US president, a special Newspoll shows, with the exception of Pauline Hanson supporters.

The News Corp poll of 1,644 Australians was conducted before Mr Trump’s controversial meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Helsinki.

The majority of those polled, 58 per cent, were dissatisfied with Mr Trump, with a further 10 per cent uncommitted and 32 per cent satisfied.

Support was lowest with Greens voters at 21 per cent, followed by Labor voters at 22 per cent and Coalition voters at 36 per cent.

But 63 per cent of One Nation supporters said they were pleased with the job Mr Trump was doing, compared with just 29 per cent dissatisfied.

One Nation leader Pauline Hanson memorably popped champagne outside Parliament House when Mr Trump won the presidential election.

Prime minister Malcolm Turnbull called Mr Trump a “patriot” yesterday as the US president faced a domestic backlash over his comments at the Helsinki summit, where he said he was reassured by Mr Putin that Russian intelligence operatives were not involved in election meddling.

Mr Turnbull said he did believe the US intelligence community on claims Russia interfered in the presidential election.

Mr Trump has now backflipped on comments at the summit and claims Russia did interfere, but not enough to impact the outcome.
