Most phone and internet services have been restored at Victoria's Mount Hotham after a cable was damaged.

Mobile, broadband and fixed line services at Hotham, Mount Feathertop, Dinner Plain, Omeo, Swifts Creek and Ensay had been disrupted since about midnight.

But late on Monday, Telstra said most of their services around Mt Hotham had been restored after the cable had been fixed.

"Telstra technicians have been working to fix the fault all day and were forced to scale rugged terrain to access the cable which was damaged by flood waters at the nearby Ovens River," Telstra said in a statement.

The telco said damage to a cable near Harrietville caused the fixed and mobile service outages.
