Prime Minister Scott Morrison says NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian is "no one-trick pony" and he's sure she'll have a "great day" - but he failed to join her at a polling booth on election day.
But at least the state Liberal leader had her federal counterpart in Sydney on Saturday.
Federal Labor leader Bill Shorten didn't make the trip to NSW this weekend to back state opposition leader Michael Daley, who's had a tough final week on the hustings.
Mr Shorten was in Tasmania and said there was no need for him to be in Sydney because "there's not much more you can do to sort out the voting" on polling day.
"It's in the hands of the voters and we'll find out at some point after 6pm who's running the state government in NSW," he told reporters in Forth.
Mr Shorten added that at least he'd spoken at NSW Labor's campaign launch a few weeks ago. Mr Morrison attended the Liberals' launch but wasn't asked to address the party faithful.
The prime minister, who lives in Sydney, and his daughter, Lily, wore Cronulla Sharks caps when they met voters at Sylvania Heights Public School.
Asked why he wasn't with Ms Berejiklian on Saturday he told reporters: "I've spoken to Gladys today I've wished her well and I think she's going to have a great day."
"I'm just here at my local electorate where you'd expect me to be," he said.
"Gladys has shown great discipline and strong leadership, which is how she runs the government, which is why she deserves the support of the people of NSW.
"She's no one-trick pony."
The man Mr Morrison deposed, former PM Malcolm Turnbull, was in Coogee supporting Liberal MP MP Bruce Notley-Smith at a polling booth.
The electorate takes in part of the federal division of Wentworth, Mr Turnbull's former blue-ribbon Liberal seat that fell to independent Kerryn Phelps in the October by-election.
"It's so important to re-elect the Berejiklian government and Bruce Notley-Smith right here in Coogee," Mr Turnbull said in a video posted on Twitter on Saturday.
