A magnitude 6.0 earthquake has struck off Papua New Guinea but no tsunami warning has been issued.

A 6.0-magnitude earthquake has struck off the coast of Papua New Guinea.

The powerful quake occurred about 230 km off of New Britain early on Tuesday at a depth of 5.7 km, the United States Geological Survey says.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center did not issue a tsunami warning.
