Prison escapee still at large: NT police

A 20-year-old man remains on the run after escaping from a Northern Territory prison and he's committing more crimes, police say.

A man who escaped from a Northern Territory prison more than a week ago is still on the run and committing more crimes, police say.

Jermaine Austral and a 23-year-old fellow inmate escaped from Alice Springs Correctional Centre on December 23.

The other man was arrested at an nearby residence on Christmas Day, but Austral is still at large.

The 20-year-old has allegedly been involved in criminal activity since he absconded, Detective Superintendent Michael White says.

"His last known sighting was yesterday on Lovegrove Drive in Alice Springs," he said on Tuesday.

"We urge members of the public, family members or friends who may know the whereabouts of Mr Austral to contact police immediately."

He is described as being of indigenous appearance with a slim build and about 160cm tall.

Members of the public should not approach Austral, but instead contact police.
