WHAT THE GOVERNMENT WANTED TO SPIN

The government has a plan for a strong economy and a secure future.

WHAT LABOR WANTED TO TALK ABOUT

The government is dragging its heels on responding to the banking royal commission.

WHAT THEY SAID

"While one part of the country is under water, another part is in flames." - Prime Minister Scott Morrison on natural disasters.

"We are all grateful and humbled by the spirit of our people." - Opposition Leader Bill Shorten.

"This government has created a part-time parliament." - Shorten on the need to sit for more days to respond to the banking royal commission findings.

"You consult on it to ensure there are no unintended consequences and you do it as a responsible and rational government." - Morrison defends pace of banking reform.

"Is the prime minister aware ... the minister for defence was reported to have said, and I quote: 'Malcolm is Aslan to me.' Noting that the pathway to Narnia is through the cabinet, will the prime minster finally tell the Australian people, including the minister for defence, why his beloved Aslan Malcolm Turnbull is no longer the prime minister of Australia?" - Labor frontbencher Anthony Albanese.

@JulianHillMP The irony of @ScottMorrisonMP yelling about unintended consequences is overwhelming. He is the ultimate unintended consequence.
