Review launched into religious freedoms

The Australian Law Reform Commission has been asked to do further work on religious freedom following the passage of same-sex marriage laws.

A review has been launched into laws that allow religious institutions to discriminate against gay students and teachers.

The federal government has asked the Australian Law Reform Commission to undertake the study following the report on religious freedom by former minister Philip Ruddock.

The review will also consider protecting the right of people to promote the view that marriage should only be between a man and a woman, following the passage of federal same-sex marriage laws.

The report is due by April 10, 2020.
