New York Police Department posted a video on Facebook of eight officers busting moves in front of the Brooklyn Bridge, in what is the latest video under the social media hashtag #RunningManChallange.
It shows officers doing their own take on the Running Man dance from the 1980s, which comes a day after New Zealand Police set the challenge to the NYPD, Victoria Police, NSW Police Force, Western Australia Police and Queensland Police Service.
The 44-second video, which includes students from a local school, has been viewed more than 2.8 million times.
The NYPD captioned the post with a challenge to the New York City Fire Department (FDNY), Boston Police Department (Official) and Police Scotland.
It received mixed reviews, with one Facebook commenting: "All of them need to be placed in cuffed (sic) for destroying the original running man. But it is awesome to see the officers partaking in the community."
Another user said: "But you won't see this on the news. The news only wants people to see the negative stories surrounding the NYPD. What a shame. awesome video."
Sports teams from the NBA posted similar videos as part of the social media campaign.
