South Australia's week-long heatwave will peak on Saturday with temperatures pushing into the low 40s in Adelaide and across the state.
The city had a top of 40.3C on Friday but the mercury climbed even higher at some suburban locations.
The Country Fire Service saw no major incidents despite the hot weather bringing extreme bushfire conditions to the Adelaide Hills and southeast regions.
The CFS said the bushfire risk would be extreme again in the Mt Lofty Ranges and the lower southeast on Saturday ahead of a cool change late in the day.
Conditions will be severe in seven other districts, from the west coast, across Eyre and Yorke peninsulas, on Kangaroo Island and in the upper southeast.
The State Emergency Service has also issued an extreme heatwave warning for SA, calling on people to take measures to keep cool.
The state government has issued a Code Red across the state, freeing up extra resources to help the homeless beat the heat.
Adelaide's temperatures have topped 35C all week, making it the city's longest hot spell of the summer.
