Alex Ohanian, the husband of Serena Williams, has called out the double standards between his wife's US Open blow-up and the assessment of now-Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

Ms Williams was criticised by some for responding emotionally following an umpire's call during her grand slam final loss last month to Naomi Osaka.

Mr Kavanaugh also became emotional during his testimony in front of the Senate a fortnight ago as he denied Christine Blasey Ford's sexual assault allegations.

On Saturday, Democratic candidate for Alabama Deborah Barros tweeted: "Funny how a black female tennis player is held to a higher standard to keep her emotions in check than a Supreme Court nominee."

This prompted Ms Williams' husband and co-founder of Reddit Alexis Ohanian to slam the double standards as "bulls**t".
Mr Kavanaugh was voted into the Supreme Court on Saturday.

More than 650 law professors signed a letter to the Senate, published in The New York Times on Wednesday, saying that at the hearing Kavanaugh "did not display the impartiality and judicial temperament" required for the Supreme Court, and urged that he not be confirmed.

In a column for the Journal, Mr Kavanaugh claimed during his testimony he was: "Forceful and passionate. That is because I forcefully and passionately denied the allegation against me."
