Stosur advances to round two in Taiwan

The top three seeds, including Sam Stosur breezed through to round two at the WTA Taiwan Open on Tuesday

Sam Stosur was among the top three seeds to breeze through to round two at the WTA Taiwan Open on Tuesday, but eighth seed Jelena Jankovic crashed out.

Top seed Elina Svitolina of Ukraine was a 6-0 6-3 winner against Evgeniya Rodina, wild card Samantha Stosur - seeded two - saw off Danka Kovinic 6-2 6-4, and Caroline Garcia, the third seed from France, toppled qualifier Marina Erakovic 6-3 6-2.

But, after going a set up, Jankovic was ousted by Kurumi Nara, the Japanese triumphing 6-7 (4-7) 7-5 6-4 at the indoor event in Taipei City.

In the evening match, 2010 French Open champion Francesca Schiavone was upset 7-6 (7-2) 6-3 by qualifier Dalila Jakupovic.

There were also wins for Czech pair Lucie Hradecka and Lucie Safarova, and Chinese duo Peng Shuai and Zhu Lin.
