Promising Brisbane midfielder Jarrod Berry is expected to be out of AFL action for six to eight weeks after undergoing surgery to remove a Baker's cyst from his knee.

A Baker's cyst is a fluid-filled pocket that causes a blister-like bulge and can cause pain behind the knee.

Lions football manager David Noble said 21-year-old Berry's knee was sore after the team's Round 9 win against Adelaide.

"After discussions with our medical team and Jarrod, surgery was agreed upon as the best solution going forward," Noble said.

"With Jarrod having a previous Baker's cyst, we have some previous information on how his body reacts to these and used that information to help us make an informed decision.

"We anticipate that his return would be around six weeks but will have a clearer picture once he has his surgery."
