Around 80 people have been asked to self-isolate after a University of Sydney student was diagnosed with coronavirus over the weekend.

It comes as the number of coronavirus cases in NSW jumped by 22 over 24 hours, taking the total number of infected people in the state to 134.

The University of Sydney on Sunday said the student had reported feeling ill, was tested for the virus and is now in hospital, "recovering and feeling well."
The student was diagnosed on the weekend and is one of the previously announced cases, a statement from the university said.

"NSW Health and the University of Sydney have identified around 80 people who were close contacts with the student while on campus, who have been asked to self-isolate for 14 days," the university said.

Six locations on the university's campus are being "intensively cleaned" on Sunday, according to NSW Health guidelines, the statement said.
"The current advice is that the rest of campus can continue to operate as normal," the university said.

Since the virus emerged, the university has been "closely monitoring the situation, liaising with other universities and taking advice from the federal government and NSW Health," the statement said.

"Preventative measures undertaken on campus include increased frequency of cleaning; increased signage regarding hygiene practices and installation of hand sanitiser units across the college."
