A mother of four young children has died after being shot at a home in Geelong, in Victoria, on Wednesday.

Victoria Police said she was found at a Whittington property at 9.20pm with a gunshot wound. She was then taken to hospital where she died as a result of her injuries.

"A man who was present at the residence is currently assisting police with their enquiries," police said in a statement.

"Homicide Squad detectives are on scene and the investigation is ongoing."

Tributes have poured in for Ms Miller who has been remembered on social media as a "beautiful mother".

"To say I love you isn't enough, to say I miss you doesn’t feel real and the immense pain I’m in trying to accept that this is in fact real is unbearable," one social media user wrote.

While another said, "rest in peace Emily Miller. Gone way to soon. We had some good times girl. Your beautiful children will be taken care of, I promise you that. Until we meet again fly high my friend".
Ms Miller shared a quote on her Facebook account earlier this year saying "don't take life for granted".

"Those who died yesterday had plans for this morning. And those who died this morning had plans for tonight," it read.

Police are urging any witnesses or anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
