Hawthorn captain Ben Stratton will be forced to explain himself after he was referred directly to the AFL tribunal for repeatedly pinching Essendon's Orazio Fantasia.
Capping a dirty night for the first-year skipper, match review officer Michael Christian also sent him straight to the tribunal for stomping on Shaun McKernan and fined him for making an obscene gesture.
Stratton was widely condemned for employing the pinching tactics against Fantasia during Friday night's loss to the Bombers at Marvel Stadium.
The back of Fantasia's upper left arm was covered in bruises by the end of the game, AFL commission chairman Richard Goyder calling the display "a bad look" that would "hopefully get dealt with properly" in an interview on ABC Grandstand.
Stratton expressed remorse when he spoke to Channel Seven on Saturday.
"My actions probably weren't a great look for the game and it's probably not something you want to be known for," Stratton said.
"As captain I've got to be better and setting the example for not only the Hawthorn club but also any kids out there."
The official charge covering his actions is 'serious misconduct' and he cannot submit an early guilty plea.
Fremantle tagger Ryan Crowley was fined $1200 six years ago for pinching North Melbourne great Brent Harvey.
Stratton can be seen stomping on McKernan's foot during a heated exchange during the fourth quarter.
He can accept a $1000 fine with an early guilty plea for raising a middle finger to a section of the Essendon crowd behind the goals in the second quarter.
In other tribunal news, Hawthorn's Jarman Impey can accept a $2000 fine for striking Zach Merrett.
