Former human rights commissioner Tim Wilson believes those labelling US President Donald Trump's travel ban as anti-Muslim are being dishonest.

The now Liberal backbencher says there are plenty of Muslim countries which aren't included in the directive and saying it's anti-Muslim is one of the most "outrageous slurs" against the Trump administration.

"We know full well that it hasn't covered a country like Indonesia, so referring to a Muslim ban is frankly dishonest." Mr Wilson told ABC television on Sunday.
