Two international students die in NT

Two international students from a Darwin university have been killed in just over one week following separate car crashes.

The Northern Territory's Charles Darwin University is mourning the loss of two international students in as many weeks following separate car crashes.

Nigerian student Emmanuel Oluwaseyi Ajadi, 26, was killed in a head-on collision south of Darwin on June 16.

Meanwhile, Bangladeshi student Irfan Munna and his Filipino friend Risa Caramay, both aged in their 20s, were killed in an horrific three-car pile up at Litchfield National Park on Sunday.

"I offer my sincere condolences to the family and friends of these two young men," CDU Vice-Chancellor Professor Simon Maddocks posted on Facebook.

"CDU is providing affected staff and students access to counselling."

Mr Ajadi, who was studying a masters of environmental management, was driving away from the Inpex gas plant when he lost control of the car and crashed into an oncoming ute on Wickham Point Road.

Police say speed was a likely factor in the death of Mr Munna, who became trapped in a car that crashed and burst into flames and sparked a bushfire near the popular tourist spot Tolmer Falls.

The bachelor of information technology student led a convoy of three cars carrying Ms Caramay and seven other CDU international students for the Sunday bush trip to celebrate his birthday and the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

While driving up to 30km over the 80km/h speed limit, his car lost control on a bend, hit a tree, split in two and was engulfed in fire.
