US Starbucks, Sprint stores get Pokestops

Niantic Labs has announced partnerships with Sprint and Starbucks in the US, with businesses hoping to entice Pokemon Go players into their strores.

US Pokemon Go Players just got thousands of more PokeStops to visit - and some of them even serve up coffee: Pokemon Go maker Niantic Labs has announced partnerships with Sprint and Starbucks this week, turning coffee shops and stores across the US into in-game locations.

Sprint became the company's first US-based brand partner earlier this week, when Niantic Labs announced that it was going to turn 10,500 Sprint, Boost Mobile and Radioshack stores into PokeStops and Gyms.

"Sprint locations will also feature in-store charging stations to keep your Pokemon Go sessions going even longer," Niantic CEO John Hanke wrote in a blog post.

On Thursday, Niantic followed up with a similar partnership with Starbucks, announcing that it will place PokeStops and Gyms at 7800 of the chain's coffee shops.

Pokemon Go entices players to visit real-world locations to unlock access to digital goods, including Pokeballs needed to catch Pokemon. Many of these locations have received increased foot traffic after the launch of the game, with GameStop CEO Paul Raines revealing in July that sales at stores with close proximity to PokeStops increased by up to 100 per cent.
