Video captures 'Fast and the Furious'-style truck heist in Sweden

Surveillance footage has captured the moments that a group of brazen thieves pulled off a string of 'Fast and the Furious' style truck heists in Sweden.

Thieves have been caught red-handed after robbing a host of trucks, belonging to Sweden's national postal service PostNord, travelling at 80km/hour.

Secret surveillance footage captured one of the heists where the robbers jumped from their car into the back of a truck, along the highway between Vara and Alingsås in south-west Sweden.

The gang - dressed in black hoodies - would begin by cutting open the cargo and taking goods of high value, according to PostNord.

After stealing the valuables, the gang then boldly jumped back onto the hood of their car to escape.

Catching onto the trend, PostNord built hidden cameras into the trailers of the truck.

“It is extremely unusual to catch a gang involved in this form of advanced crime – breaking open locks and getting into a truck at high speed," Head of PostNord Security Alexis Larsson said in a press release.

"But thanks to the close cooperation with the police in Alingsås, we succeeded."
The criminal gang was unaware they were being filmed during the string of heists and were eventually arrested in September by local police.

The truck driver - during the final attempted robbery - was aware the thieves were in his trailer and started to constantly break so they could not jump back into their getaway vehicle.

“Suddenly I saw on the film how the back doors of the truck were opened and two men jumped in, from the hood of a car traveling right behind the truck at high speed and with no lights on," Larsson said.

"They looked through the cargo without finding what they were looking for and were then about to leave the vehicle. That was when I told the driver to brake."

The robberies are reminiscent of scenes out of the Hollywood action movie series 'The Fast and the Furious', where a group would attempt similar extreme heists.
