WHAT THEY SAID ON DAY 27 OF THE ELECTION CAMPAIGN

THE BEST LINE

"Pardon the pun, but I don't want to over-egg this thing."

- Scott Morrison on an egging incident at a Country Women's Association meeting.

PRIME MINISTER SCOTT MORRISON

"There was one individual who came along today, who I think the CWA could give a really good idea about what you're supposed to do with eggs."

- Laughing off the egging attempt with CWA members.

"By all means you can have a different view but this type of behaviour really should have no place in this country."

- on the serious matter of violent protest.

LABOR LEADER BILL SHORTEN

"I like people, I can't speak for the Liberals. They always look like they've come from another planet and they've found the human race very curious at election time."

- on why he meets and greets the public during the campaign.

"One of the themes that is leading to early pre-poll activity is a mood for change."

- on the high level of early voting.

REAL PEOPLE

"I recently had surgery on my stomach so my main concern was holding my stomach to make sure it didn't get hit or somebody land on it."

- Margaret Baxter, who was helped off the floor by Scott Morrison after the egging incident.

THE SUPPORT CAST

"We only had our launch on Sunday. The government is still trying to find some policies to launch next Sunday."

- Labor's Anthony Albanese
