Competitive instincts took a back seat when a football player’s hijab slipped off during a women’s league match in Jordan.

Instead, players from the opposition team halted the game and huddled around the player until she could fix her hijab back in place.

The footage, from an October 2018 game in Jordan, has been widely praised after surfacing online earlier this month.

It shows a player from Amman Club racing for the ball when her hijab accidentally slips off her head.

Rival players from the Shabab al Alourdon Club immediately abandon their chase, and instead stepped in to form a huddle.

Other players then joined the huddle and linked arms around the player.

Football fans have been quick to praise the video.

“What an amazing display of cultural awareness within a competitive setting,” wrote one fan on Twitter.

“How beautiful to see true support and respect among players,” wrote another fan.
