Two infant Aboriginal girls from remote communities have died in the weeks leading up to Christmas News Corp's The Australian newspaper reported today.

The Australian said both girls were flown from their respective community's to Alice Springs by the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS), before being transferred to Adelaide.

One of the girls was known to child protection services and her death os now the subject of a police investigation, said the report.

The 18-month-old was flown from Yuendumu, around 300kms northwest of Alice Springs, on December 15.

Sources said the girl had suffered from hypoxic shock from sepsis, The Australian reports.

The RFSD said it also flew another infant girl around the same age from Tennant Creek after she suffered "a respiratory arrest leading to a brain injury". The patient was resuscitated and transferred from the Tennant Creek Hospital to Alice Springs and then on to Adelaide on December 15.

An RFSD spokesperson told The Australian the girl later died in Adelaide on Friday 21 December.

The Australian reports Tennant Creek locals said the girl choked on ballon. A Territory Families spokesperson said the girl "was not in the care of the Chief Minister."
