Last-gasp goals see Tunisia, Algeria progress to Arab Cup Final

The semi-finals of the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup produced some incredible action, as both Tunisia and Algeria progressed to the Final off the back of dramatic late goals.

Tunisia 1-0 Egypt

Both teams failed to negotiate each others' tight defences for the bulk of the game, with chances few and far between heading into the final minutes.

The decisive goal then came in the final minute of stoppage time, as Egyptian captain Amr Elsolia turned a dangerous free kick into his own net to spell heartbreak for him and rapture for Tunisia, as attention moved to the second game of the night for who they would face in the tournament decider.

Algeria 2-1 Qatar

An intense first half ended scoreless before Algeria hit the ground running in the second stanza as Benlamri Djamel volleyed home in the 60th minute to break the deadlock.

As the match approached 90 minutes, Algeria had looked to have done enough to win, until Qatar's Mohammed Muntari headed in a dramatic equaliser in the seventh minute of stoppage time to set up an extra time showdown.

But it wasn't to be, as the goal caused more time to be added on which saw Algeria awarded a penalty in the 15th minute. Mohammed Belaili stepped up for the crucial kick and had his initial effort saved by keeper Saad Alsheeb, but fired home the second effort to knock out the host nation and give his country a chance at Arab Cup glory.
