SBS Voices has published hundreds of stories from emerging writers from backgrounds traditionally under-represented in the media, available to explore at sbs.com.au/voices.
Partnerships with organisations including the Western Sydney writers’ collective Sweatshop, The Writing Zone program at Western Sydney University and Centre for Stories in Perth, contributed to the rich tapestry of stories from across Australia showcased across the site.
SBS Voices has also produced award-winning podcasts Let Me Tell You, Love Me, Love My Anxiety, and The New Writer’s Room, and short-form documentary series The Swiping Game featuring emerging talent both in front of and behind the camera and available on SBS On Demand,.
In 2020, SBS Voices launched the annual Emerging Writers’ Competition and over three years saw thousands of writers from all across Australia submit their personal stories. Hardie Grant Books has published the anthologies “Roots: Home Is Who We Are”, and ‘Between Two Worlds’, a collection of the top entries from the competition which provided many of the writers with their first entry into the publishing industry.
SBS Voices is no longer commissioning new content, but the site continues to showcase the diversity of pieces and writers that have been published.
