Newly elected US congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is known for many things: her progressive political platform, being the youngest woman ever to serve in the United States Congress, and, it seems, her wonderfully involved skincare routine.

Ocasio-Cortez made waves on social media earlier this week when she shared her daily skincare routine on her Instagram story, addressing a follower's question and earning praise from skin-conscious women around the world.

“How do you stay stress free and how do you keep your skin so clear?!,” one follower asked the New York representative.

While Ocasio-Cortez admitted that she feels “stressed pretty much every day, a lot of the time,” she did continue to explain in detail how she manages her skin.

“Skincare is a straight-up hobby of mine,” the lawmaker wrote.

“I’m a science nerd and I truly enjoy the science of it, reading about compounds and studies, etc.”
Describing her approach as “a blend between K-beauty and scientific consensus,” Ocasio-Cortez also explained that she tries to minimise her dairy intake, which has been linked to adult acne.

“I also straight up don’t wear makeup some days and everyone just has to deal with it,” she added.

After detailing her skincare routine, makeup and approach to managing food, another of AOC's followers asked her a question about speechwriting, saying: “I’m sorry but I don’t care about skin care routines.”

“That’s okay, we all have different interests,” Ocasio-Cortez replied - before answering the follower's question.

Smarts, beauty AND class.
