American TV networks have been known for being harsh on Black women wearing their natural hair on air, so for Samaria Terry, a news reporter and anchor for a regional US TV channel, wearing her braids on air took some courage.
Many on social media were surprised that in 2021 it's still an act of bravery for Black woman to show their natural hair on TV.
But for Black women questioning how to wear their hair is part and parcel of life in America.

"People don't get it. As a black woman, I've questioned my hair styles numerous times," one social media user tweeted.
As one Twitter user reminded everyone, it was only in 2019 that California became the first US state to ban racial discrimination based on hairstyle.
