“I never would have done that if I wasn’t in a way pushed by the universe,” he told the magazine of coming out as gay.

Musician of the moment Lil Nas X has continued his meteoric rise, landing the cover of TIME magazine - and fans are feeling proud and, well, a little emotional.

Wearing some fire red-hot-cowboy-turtleneck getup, the openly gay Old Town Road singer and unlikely fashion icon makes an impact in the momentous cover shoot, opening up about his ascent from obscurity to having the longest-running no.1 song in US Billboard Charts history.

In his interview with TIME, the hip-hop/country artist spoke about his newfound fame and the decision to share his sexuality, something he's previously admitted he wanted to take with him to his grave.

“I never would have done that if I wasn’t in a way pushed by the universe,” he told TIME.

“In June, I’m seeing Pride flags everywhere and seeing couples holding hands - little stuff like that.”
The star explained that he told his father and sister in early June, before tweeting the news to his countless followers.

“I know the people who listen to [‘Old Town Road’] the most, and they’re not accepting of homosexuality," he told Time, adding that he had been raised with the belief that homosexuality “is never going to be O.K.”

It was a risk, he admitted. But one he felt compelled to take.

“Some of y’all already know, some of y’all don’t care, some of y’all not [going to f— with me] no more." He tweeted when he first shared the news publicly.

"But before this month ends I want y’all to listen closely to c7osure,” he added, along with a rainbow emoji.

The lyrics to C7osure sees Lil Nas X singing about his desire to live his life more authentically.

“Ain’t no more actin’, man that forecast say I should just let me grow/ No more red light for me baby, only green, I gotta go/ Pack my past up in the back, oh, let my future take ahold/ This is what I gotta do, can’t be regrettin’ when I’m old.”

Sigh. We love him.
