In a historic step forward for the country’s LGBT+ community, politicians in Malta voted to legalise same-sex marriage this week—but not everyone is happy about it.
The country’s Archbishop Charles Scicluna has been writing about his opposition to the amendment of Malta’s marriage act—the words “husband” and “wife” will now be replaced with the gender-neutral “spouse”.
Scicluna has been furiously tweeting that “holy matrimony will stay” and “marriage should be between a man and a woman” but has also included a bizarre photo of some trees to try and make his point.
