A clever new video has been released by the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras to promote marriage equality.

'The Big Deal' depicts a backyard barbecue, with family members slathering their meals in BBQ sauce as a young man looks around hesitantly.

"Get stuck in, son," his father urges him.

"Actually Mum, Dad... I like tomato sauce," he announces.
After a few moments of silence, and looks of confusion from family members, the father storms away from the table, only to return and embrace his son, accepting his tomato sauce loving ways.

As they return to their meal, the son and his partner share a kiss and reveal their matching wedding bands—with not a single person at the table batting an eye.
The heartwarming advertisement ends with the message: "A simple difference shouldn't be a big deal".

The video has gone viral, attracting over two million views on Facebook.
