Marvel Comic's new Iceman spin-off has comic book fans cheering, delivering the brand's first ever drag character - a mutant named Shade.

Created by Marvel writer Sina Grace, Shade's introduction in the Iceman series is particularly appropriate given Iceman's alter-ego, Bobby Drake, is an openly gay man - the first queer lead in a Marvel series.
Reflecting on LGBTIQ+ representation in the series, Grace said that the team were only getting started.

"I really wanted this series to push readers to new and better stories about the whole queer experience and how it applies to being both a mutant and a superhero," he told The Advocate.

He added: "There’s a million different queer perspectives and we’re only scratching the surface."
