Openly gay Democratic candidate Pete Buttigieg has been given the Saturday Night Live treatment - and by none other than non-ageing nice guy Paul Rudd.

“I may only be 37-years-old but I do feel like I represent everyday Americans,” said Rudd, as Buttigieg, appearing as a panel guest on The View. “I’m just a Harvard-educated, multilingual, war veteran Rhodes Scholar. I’m just like you.”

Rudd's version of Buttigieg continued: “I wouldn’t be running for president if I didn’t think America was ready to accept not only a gay man, but a boring gay man in the public eye."
The skit also touched on the internet's growing love for Buttigieg's husband, Chasten Buttigieg, whose sharp Twitter presence has made him popular with members of the public. While Rudd-as-Buttigieg tries to steer the conversation towards climate change, the cast interrupt him and introduce Chasten.

“Wow, this is all so new to me, usually I’m just home with the dogs,” said Chasten.

“You’re gay and you have dogs?" Joy Behar (played by Kate McKinnon) replies.

"I’m sorry, I love that, I’m voting for you.”

In the real world, Buttigieg - also known as Mayor Pete - today made headlines for crossing the political divide and participating in a Fox News Town Hall, at which he received a standing ovation.
