As Keanu Reeves once said: "I need therapy."

And really, don't we all?

Social media users are sharing their main take-aways from years of therapy, tweeting out lessons they've learned from their psychologists in the hope of generating a healthy discussion around mental health.

Yesterday, author Caroline Moss tweeted a message to her 30,000 followers: "If you go to therapy, quote tweet this with the best thing you learned at therapy that way everyone else can get free therapy."

Naturally, the internet obliged, with thousands of people sharing their personal experiences - even Monica Lewinsky, who reflected that "you can still have regret even if you made the best decision/choice."

Lewinsky also shared that "it takes a long time of things being different for the PTSD psyche to believe it’s safe/different" and "don’t judge your insides by other people’s outsides".
Other life changing advice from therapy soon followed.

"My therapist told me: 'You can be your own witness,'" one user wrote.

She continued: "It completely blew my mind, I was so used to thinking that my word about a negative experience wasn't good enough, that I needed witnesses to it in order to make it something I was allowed to be hurt by."

Another wrote that "everyone needs a coping mechanism", explaining: "There are bad ones (drinking, drugs, violence) and good ones (excercise, meditation, therapy). Pick a good one so you can avoid the bad ones, bc we all have things we needs to cope with."

While some Twitter users shared hard truths, others championed the power of positive thinking.

"If you can imagine the worst thing, you can imagine the best thing," one wrote.

"Both things are imaginary. Say out loud verbally the positive outcome, repeat until it feels more real."

More of this on social media, please and thank you!
