Pop star Dua Lipa has taken to social media following an incident at her concert in Shanghai, with footage emerging of several fans being forcibly removed by local authorities.

While it was alleged by witnesses that the audience members were removed because they were waving rainbow flags, others claimed it was for standing in the seated-only show.

Regardless, Lipa was left visibly upset by the altercation.
"Last night I did it for my fans," she wrote in an Instagram post.

She continued: "A promised show. I stood by them, sang with them and danced with them.

"I will stand by you all for your love and beliefs and I am proud and grateful that you felt safe enough to show your pride at my show.

"What you did takes a lot of bravery. I always want my music to bring strength, hope and unity."
"I was horrified by what happened and I send love to all my fans involved," Lipa wrote.

"I would love to come back for my fans when the time is right and hopefully see a room full of rainbows. I love you Shanghai."

While homosexuality has been legal in China since 1997, members of the LGBTIQ+ community continue to face censorship and legal challenges not experienced by heterosexual members of society.
