Social justice, mental health and LGBTI activist, Demi Lovato, announced the very personal results of a DNA test she took on her Twitter this week.
The tests revealed her genetic makeup is comprised of a number of different ethnicities, with the majority coming from European and Native American backgrounds.
The results also specified that her DNA is one per cent African, the 24 year-old excitedly told the world on Twitter.
While she was on the receiving end of a small number of negative tweets questioning the reasons highlighting her African makeup, the response was largely supportive, praising the singer for wanting to look into her roots.
In reply to the unfavourable feedback Lovato sent out a new Tweet later in the day expressing her disappointment at the retort, again receiving an abundantly positive reaction.
Lovato has been involved in a number of charitable campaigns, recently working with WE Charity, a group aimed at deveoping sustainable change across Africa, Asia and Latin America, while in 2016 she received the GLAAD Vanguard Award for her efforts in promoting equal rights within the LGBTI community.
