A single father has warmed the internet's cold, dead heart by seeking advice on how to connect with his teenage son over RuPaul's Drag Race.
In a touching post on reddit, the man going by the name of "Dad of a Fan" wrote: "Okay, so I’m a single parent of two amazing boys (4 year old and 15-year-old). My 15-year-old has a tough time at school, being shy and having a stutter."
He continued: “I was cleaning up his room while he was in the shower and ... this show [RuPaul’s Drag Race] was paused on Netflix. He has been using different kind of phrases like 'the shade' and 'I’m gagging' (that one worried me at first). I googled the shade and found it was a drag term but I didn’t understand it.”
“Is there any advice you can give me?" He asked, explaining that he suspected his son was gay "for other reasons".
"I won’t embarrass him and start quoting the show but when he said he was 'gagging' I had no idea how to react. I would like to know how to react. I was hoping I could get a crash course on this sort of chat.”
The internet being the internet, it didn't take long for 'Ru Paul's Drag Race' judge Michelle Visage to take notice of the dad's message, managing to get in touch with him via email for a quick lesson in drag lingo.
After receiving hundreds of positive replies to his original message, the dad thanked the reddit community.
"Thank you so much for the mostly positive response," he wrote.
"I've tried to respond to everyone but sorry if I missed anyone. I'm overwhelmed by how kind you have all been!"
I don't know about you, but this sounds like a 'Drag Race' x 'Queer Eye' cross-over special in the making - and we're here for it.
