Just as Australia and New Zealand get set to reconnect via the fledgling Trans-Tasman bubble, along comes Patriot Brains. It's the ultimate showdown between the two countries, with Bill Bailey as master of ceremonies. Across the series, the bearded Brit will pit some of the best Antipodean comedians against each other, in a hilarious battle of wits.

In the premiere episode, the teams are tested on their knowledge about farmers’ markets, introduced pests, little-known gangs and more.

The episode 1 line-up is as follows:

Team New Zealand

  • Mel Bracewell
  • Guy Montgomery
  • Madeline Sami

Team Australia

  • Mel Buttle
  • Rhys Nicholson
  • Tom Ballard
The show challenges our rivalries and celebrates our differences. Or to put it another way: Each week, one team will prove they know the most about their own country, and the other will be named and shamed as the most uneducated patriots.

Patriot Brains is produced by The Downlow Concept for TVNZ and is made with the support of NZ On Air.

Patriot Brains premieres on SBS VICELAND at 8.30pm Tuesday 13 April. Episodes will be available at SBS On Demand the same day.
