Thursday 15 September promises to be a "Blessed, blessed day". Award-winning hit drama series The Handmaid’s Tale returns for season 5 with brand new episodes, fast-tracked from the US, premiering exclusively on SBS and SBS On Demand.

In the new season teaser, released today, June risks facing consequences for killing Commander Waterford, and struggles to redefine her identity and purpose. Serena Waterford is relishing her position as 'grieving widow' and looks to be attempting to raise her profile in Toronto, as Gilead’s influence creeps into Canada. Set to the strains of a version of Christina Aguilera's 'Fighter', the teaser pits June and Serena on a collision course. Elsewhere, the series synopsis reveals that Commander Lawrence works with Nick and Aunt Lydia as he tries to reform Gilead - and orchestrate his own rise in power (of course). And, June, Luke and Moira fight Gilead from a distance as they continue their mission to save and reunite with Hannah.

Also returning 15 September is SBS Australia’s award-winning Handmaid's Tale companion podcast, Eyes on Gilead. Each episode of the podcast offers entertaining and engrossing analysis of The Handmaid's Tale, along with exclusive interviews with the stars and creators of the series. You can subscribe to Eyes On Gilead on your preferred podcast platform now, to relive the (epic) events of season 4, and obtain unique insights from the Handmaid's team, about how they create the show.

Starring Elisabeth Moss, Bradley Whitford, Yvonne Strahovski, Max Minghella, O-T Fagbenle, Samira Wiley, Madeline Brewer, Amanda Brugel, Ann Dowd, Sam Jaeger, we cannot wait to watch the much-anticipated season 5 unfold.

The Handmaid’s Tale is produced by MGM Television and executive produced by Bruce Miller, Warren Littlefield, Elisabeth Moss, Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears, Eric Tuchman, Yahlin Chang, Rachel Skukert, Sheila Hockin, John Weber, Frank Siracusa, Steve Stark and Kim Todd. The series is internationally distributed by MGM.
