Seven seasons into its run and Homeland is still one of the best and most relevant shows on TV. In fact, more so than ever, this season’s storylines mirror real-world events. Sure, it features a female president, but Elizabeth Keane is more Trump than Clinton.

Then, there’s former CIA agent Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes). Just when you think you’ve seen her go as far out there as possible in her quest to protect her country, she still manages to shock. Without giving too much away for those who aren’t up to speed with season seven yet, it’s a fool who thinks he can hijack her computer and hold her to ransom.

If you haven’t been catching Homeland on SBS, well, first of all, why not? And second of all, it’s not too late to pick up this season from the very first episode on SBS On Demand. We’ve even put together a Homeland refresher so you can dive straight in. Never watched Homeland before? That’s not a problem, either.

You might have worked out by now that we’re not taking any excuses when it comes to Homeland. And with good reason. Since its debut in 2011, the series has been showered with critical praise and awards, including two Emmys and two Golden Globes for Danes, whose portrayal of the bipolar-afflicted operative has provoked discussion and increased awareness of mental illness.

Homeland has also done an outstanding job of depicting the paranoid times we live in. While we might not all be able to relate to being on the frontline in the fight against terror like Carrie, we’ve all been affected by the changed world in which we now live – and Homeland taps into that fear and uncertainty.
