Take everything you love about Eurovision - big dreams (and bigger hair); a small-town act with the odds stacked against them; sparkly costumes; intense rivalry – and give it a big dose of glitter-filled extra oomph.

Now add Will Ferrell, Rachel McAdams, Dan Stevens and Pierce Brosnan and you’ve got new Netflix comedy Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, which will premiere on June 26.

Netflix has just released the trailer:
The movie tells the story of small-town musicians Lars Erickssong (Ferrell) and Sigrit Ericksdottir (McAdams), who form the Icelandic duo, Fire Saga. They dream of Eurovision glory, but the odds are against them: Iceland doesn’t like their music. Even Lars' father (Brosnan) doesn’t like their music.

But, as Neflix says of the upcoming movie (on which Eurovision superfan Ferrell also has screenwriting and producer credits), when the pair are given the opportunity of a lifetime to represent their country at the world’s biggest song competition, “they finally have a chance to prove that any dream is a dream worth fighting for”.  Sure, but can they over come technical hiccups, a bare-chested “sex player” competitor (Stevens) and other challenges?

Australia got a first glimpse of The Story of Fire Saga last month, when SBS’s Eurovision 2020: Big Night In! included the music video Volcano Man, a song from the movie's soundtrack.
And yes, for those wondering, that really is Ferrell singing.

Iceland's 2020 Eurovision act, Daði & Gagnamagnið, was crowned Australia's virtual winner, with the synth-pop track Think About Things.  You'll have to watch the movie when it drops on Netflix to see how Fire Saga fares.
