RuPaul's Drag Race series nine winner Sasha Velour will soon be gracing our TV screens, sharing their monthly Nightgowns drag show in documentary form on new streaming service Quibi (which stands for 'quick bites').

Velour has been one of most celebrated graduates of the Drag Race franchise so far, using their platform and performance art to advocate for progress in the LGBTIQ+ community, while challenging popular notions of drag by honouring the art form's long political history.

Some of their notable fans include none other than New York congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who last year made it along to one of Velour's monthly shows.

Sharing the news on social media last year, Velour wrote: "Nightgowns is coming to Quibi! An eight-part series will debut on the new platform next year."

They explained: "I’m so excited for you to see the next stage of this very special drag show! Executive produced by me, with Academy Award-nominated producers from The Documentary Group and groundbreaking Grammy Award-winning music video director Sophie Muller."
Quibi's official synopsis for the series reads: “Part performance documentary, part portrait of the artist, we’ll watch her work with each member of her unique and wonderful ensemble to craft the lip sync performances of their wildest dreams."

It continues: "Each installment draws us to one performer in particular, and reveals their daily life, process, and backstory, culminating in a 2-3 minute made-for-mobile visual expression of their live number,” the queen’s reps explain in a press release announcing the series.

According to New New Next, the show's live numbers will be directed by  music video auteur Sophie Muller, who has preciously directed  forKylie Minogue’s, Sophie Ellis Bextor, and Gwen Stefani.
