The artists of Eurovision 2017: Demy – “This is Love” (Greece)

Twenty-five-year-old Demy was a safe choice for Greece this year.

After the fusion confusion of last year’s “Utopian Land”, Greece have opted for a safe pair of hands in 2017 and hope to regain previous form. Broadcaster ERT cleverly plumbed for popular award-winning youngster Demy (aka Dimitra Papadea) as their representative.

The Greek public were presented with three song options for Demy to potentially perform in Kyiv, with the anthemic “This is Love” composed by Eurovision stalwart Dimitris Kontopoulos winning the vote. Kontopoulos has some serious Eurovision cred, being one of those responsible for last year’s third place-getter, “You Are the Only One”, performed by Russia’s Sergey Lazarev.

Eurovision can always do with a dose of “doof doof” - and “This is Love” will strangle some of the surrounding ballads and get the Kyiv audience dancing in the aisles. Although a little on the safe side, this is a big return to form and an obvious qualifier.
